Labor Day-Resting from your labors?

To me Labor Day was meant to be able to rest from my job and to enjoy being with my family. A day to be able to forget all the stress of everyday and to enjoy the last days of summer. Where memorial day usually meant our first big campout of the year, Labor Day usually mean't our last of the year. Although, I am lucky to live in Arizona in the valley of the sun, we still can't go up to the mountains without hitting cold weather late into the fall. So not liking the cold I usually followed the seasons with my behavior. Never did get the not wearing white after Labor Day though. Seemed to me I should be able to wear what ever color I wanted to whenever I wanted to but then I was always a non conformist. Oh well, back to labor day. However you celebrate Labor Day remember that we as Americans enjoy freedoms and strengths that may other countries only dream of. We work hard for what we enjoy and sometimes it seems that we are stretched way to thin. But when it is all over and done we can relax with friends and family, share laughter and joy in each others company. We step back and look at our lives and often times even though we think that things are pretty bad when we look at the over all picture we can see that our lives are pretty good and they are getting better.
So this year as we celebrate the hard work of those who have gone before us, our families, our friends and ourselves, let's take a moment to thank God for all that we already have.

A Smile Makes You Feel Better

This weeks community blog at ESN is about smiling. As I contemplated what smiling means to me. I first thought of how smiling makes me feel, it always makes me feel lighter and more like facing the day, no matter how difficult it may seem to be.  Then I thought of the things that make me feel like smiling. Little kids playing, jokes, uplifting quotes, sunshine, memories, and of course all those little things that sometimes startle a smile out of you when you least expect it.  This morning as I looked through the items on my friends stores I ran across this M and M candy jar at Hazel's Hodgepodge. I love the little M and M candy guys, they always make me smile.

Angels to Watch Over Us

This week as I contemplated the Theme for Scavenger Hunters Blog which is Church and what it means to us. I thought back to what always meant the most to me which was the Scriptures. Which of course brought me to the ones that gave me the most comfort.

One of the most consoling doctrines of Scripture is that of the guardianship of angels. Which brings me to one of my favorite old testiment scriptures Psalms 91:11 " For he shall give his angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways."

With this in mind I went searching for Angel's and I found this one at

Going to the Beach

As I contemplated the theme for this week SWIMMING, I thought of all the things that I need when going to the beach. There are the obvious things, swim suit, towel,sun screen, large hat, something to drink, snacks, a chair, blanket, sandals, and of course the one thing that I can't live with out, A really good book.

Music Soothes My Soul

Music is a very large part of our family. My father-in-law played the guitar, my husband plays, my oldest son plays, my brother-in-law is a song writer and plays lead guitar. My fondest memories are sitting in my husband's Aunts living room and listening to Saturday night music fests with everyone from the family gathering together and listening to those in the family, and special neighbors who played, sing and play. It was the best of Cajun Saturday Nights. I always walked away from these with a smile on my face and a song in my heart. It never failed to make my heart lighter and the worries of the world go away.

It is Memorial Day and time for us to bring to mind those who have fought both in the past and  those that are now serving to keep our way of life and us safe from harm. Remember not only the men who are fighting but also those members of their families who are also serving here at home. Those of us who are benefiting from their service should take a minute from not just this day but everyday to offer up Thanks to those men and women who are giving their all that we might enjoy the freedoms that we have and take for granite every day of our lives.  God Bless Them One And All!!  We Will Not Forget.
